How to build a personal social media presence that stays focused on your professional goals (Video)

Your professional social media presence ought to be personal, but only inasmuch as it shows your humanity; you don’t want to build a social media presence that loses focus of your professional goals and confuses followers.

Author and marketing coach Terry Brock describes some subtle differences between the two approaches and how it’s not necessarily obvious when someone is straying from “empathetic” to “no longer providing value to followers”.

Brock suggests having several advisors help you monitor and assess your social media performance. Set some protocols and rules for engagement, then have those advisors help you make sure you’re adhering to those rules so that you can stay on track.

Remember: There are downsides to social media, and setting a process will help you avoid pitfalls that may await.
